Asset Tracking/NHS

Asset Tracking/NHS
Introduction
A real-time location system is built into ComplyTag, enabling instant asset location for maintenance needs, eliminating unproductive search time. This saves costs by allowing maintenance staff to concentrate on their tasks.

This system is especially beneficial for the NHS, aiding in tracking assets like beds, wheelchairs, ventilators, and pumps.

It comprises two main components: a gateway and beacons.

Gateway
These readers detect the location of a beacon attached to an asset.

They are inexpensive and easy to install—simply plug it into a standard power supply. It can detect beacons within a 10m range, so precise positioning isn't necessary. ComplyTag sets up the gateway in advance, eliminating the need for a specialized installer.

Location data is transmitted through standard Wi-Fi, avoiding interference with other devices and eliminating the need for costly additional infrastructure.

Beacon
The beacons are inexpensive, compact, and come with an adhesive sticker for easy attachment to assets. They can be placed almost anywhere and function even through metal, making them suitable for use with beds, pumps, ventilators, etc.

Each beacon continuously sends out its location and has a battery life of 2-3 years. The batteries are replaceable and cost very little.

Using standard Bluetooth technology (the same as in phones and earbuds), the beacons don't interfere with other devices or systems.
RFID Problems
RFID, is sometimes considered, poses challenges:

1. Costly fixed gateways need specialized installation and can disrupt other devices.
2. Additional mobile readers are often needed, leading to extra effort without cost benefits.
3. Tag range is limited, leading to missed readings.
4. Tag positioning is crucial; metal assets may block signals.
5. RFID primarily provides location data, unlike ComplyTag which integrates maintenance functions directly.
